Believe it or not, your stage within the European Commission is coming to its midway point. To mark the occasion, the Communications Subcommittee is happy to release the first issue of the European Stagiaires Journal online next week.

If you want us to publish your photos of stage events, trips and parties in this first issue, then please send them to us by Friday 14th May to: europeanstagiairesjournal2010@gmail.com (put “photos” in the subject).

We are also preparing material for the second issue of our beloved magazine, which will be in your hands at the end of the stage. This is why we are kindly requesting you to submit your articles for this second issue to us. The deadline for this is 5th June.

This second issue will be organised into the following subsections. You may want write an article on those themes, but if not feel free to use your imagination and engage with different matters.

Hoy he tenido la oportunidad de asistir a la presentación que el presidente de la Comisión Europea, Jose Manual Durao Barroso, ha ofrecido a todo el staff, desde la sala de prensa del Berlaymont, a través de EbS. Ante la demanda por acudir a la cita, se había organizado un sistema de cuotas por DGs. A los stagiaires nos correspondían 27 plazas, una por país. Así que España estaba representada en mi humilde persona.

La sesión la presidió la portavoz de la Comisión, Pía Ahrenkilde, que parecía sonreirse de ver a tantos colegas en el lugar donde normalmente anidan esos pájaros que son los periodistas.

Me sorprendió gratamente el desparpajo con que el presidente domina el inglés y el francés, hizo medio discurso en cada idioma. Realizó una interlocución solvente, quizás demasiado centrado en las negociaciones para aprobar el mecanismo de salvamento del euro, no era el tema que podía encandilar a la audiencia.

En el turno de preguntas, que comenzó con un enrebuscadísimo acertijo técnico sobre la promoción de funcionarios que nadie entendió, los compañeros pedían liderazgo europeo para una gobernanza global, multilinguismo y comunicación, “estoy en favor de las nuevas tecnologías” aseguró Barroso. También mucho sobre los agentes contractuales, cosa, que claro está, me interesaba mucho.

Me extraño la falta de interés del personal sobre el servicio de acción exterior. Solo una pregunta tan específica que provocó una acertada respuesta “no tengo el organigrama de la comisión en la cabeza”. Sobre el EAS, todo son dudas de momento.

Por la tarde, subí a la planta 13ª para una presentación de prensa entre Barroso y el secretario general de la OCDE, hoy parecía que estaba siguiendo al presidente.

La Oficina de la Comunitat Valenciana en Bruselas continúa su importante labor contra el maltrato hacia las mujeres. Mis amigos de la FCVRE organizan un seminario en la oficina el día 4 de mayo a las 16.00 con el título “Violence against women in relationships: current situation”. La charla será ofrecida por Isabel Iborra, de la Valencian International University (VIU). Y mi aplauso una vez más por el excelente trabajo que desarrollan en el campo social.

Hoy mi Comisario, Andris Piebalgs, ha presentado el “Spring Package“, un conjunto de medidas para poner en su sitio los Objetivos del Milenio, y con ello llegar a tiempo antes de que venza el plazo, en 2015. Estos objetivos, acordados por los líderes de todo el mundo en la ONU en 2000, corresponden el primer compromiso global para acabar con el hambre y la pobreza en el planeta Tierra. (more…)
